Reality health-check

It happens so many times that we talk about getting a health check-up done, and then we forget all about it and get on with our lives. And in unfortunate cases, one fine day, without any warning, a pain in the arm and someone finds out he has a heart condition. Classic example - my father. My father was a top class footballer who played for Mohun Bagan and Bengal, didn't smoke / drink / party, slept / woke early, avoided spicy / oily food, had a lean body mass, in short - a model "healthy" person. Yet he suffered from a heart ailment in his early 40s, and carried a pacemaker later in his life. If it can happen to him, it can happen to anybody.

Proud to announce that yesterday I had a lipid profile test done to check my cholesterol level, and all is well here. So, my friends, do the right thing - get yourself checked, specially if you are over 30.

hey good to hear everything turned out good :) .. Last year when my mum was in the hospital i mentioned getting all these tests done and she was thoroughly surprised and asked me to get it done ASAP and thankfully mine came out good as well !! It was good to know but then I guess you are an active person unlike most folks of our age :)

The smile tells me you still have time. Enjoy :)

I knew if anyone I know got it done, it would be you... and no surprise that the test results are good too... with your tennis, travel, cycling, etc.

last month my uncle died of stroke. He was 61...again he never had alcohol ever, never smoked, no late nights and had pure bengali home cooked food all his life...yet he suffered from multiple Kidney failure towards the end of his life. Sometime I think what will happen to me coz I smoke like a pack/day, alcohol on weekends, frequent late nights, bad eating habits....i think 40 is what I should aim for..

I am glad that you don't have high cholesterol. Its such a pain...You can't have oily food and the egg yolk regularly. And, you are absolutely right. All this can happen to anybody and so, they should get their lipid profile reports once they are around 30 or 35. My mother was found to have very high cholesterol after her first lipid profile and she had to control her eating habits a lot.

@Sanjit
But you do workout, and maintain a lean mass. I am more worried about your roommate.

@Butterfly
Yeah, like any other disease, it's a pain. As they say, prevention is better than cure.

Congratulations on having made a beginning. I have still to do that. One should not take good health for granted.

@Kanchan
True... good health cannot be taken for granted. Specially for our generation with unhealthy habits and ever increasing pollution levels.
